Ashley Dale: Gunman used me, alleged getaway driver tells court

Joseph Peers, who is accused of being the driver for the gunman who shot Ashley Dale, has stated that he was “used” by the killer. James Witham, the gunman, admits to the manslaughter of Dale, who was shot on August 21st, 2022, in Old Swan, Liverpool. Peers stayed with Witham in a hotel after the shooting and drove him to Scotland. Liverpool Crown Court was told by Peers that he had been “blatantly lied to” and knew “how odd it looked.”

Peers claims that he did not drop off Witham to pick up a weapon after 10:10 BST on August 20th, nor did he go to the area close to Dale’s home to carry out a “recce.” Paul Greaney KC, prosecuting, suggested that Peers had later helped Witham to slash Dale’s car tires. Peers denied this, stating that he would not lower his standards and saying “It’s the lowest of the low.”

The prosecution has alleged that Lee Harrison, Dale’s partner, was the intended target of the attack. Greaney alleged that Peers’s job was to drive the car and “otherwise support James Witham” in the “plot” to attack the house and “kill Lee Harrison, leaving behind no witnesses.” Peers denies these allegations. Peers, Witham, and co-defendants Niall Barry, Sean Zeisz, and Ian Fitzgibbon, deny the murder of Dale, conspiracy to murder Lee Harrison, conspiracy to possess a prohibited weapon (a Skorpion sub-machine gun), and ammunition. Kallum Radford, who denies assisting an offender, is also a co-defendant
