Icelandic artist neonme has announced the release of her latest album, ‘premiere’, set to drop on October 25. The artist draws from various sonic influences, applying her skills in studio production for other artists and sound design for theatre shows with Iceland’s National Theatre and City Theatre. Her latest effort incorporates electronica with ethereal samples sourced from a range of eclectic sources, such as flowers, bees, and even vacuum cleaners.
According to neonme, the album is the first piece of work that feels truly authentic to her musical identity outside of collaboration. It took her over four years to create the record from start to finish as she endeavored to figure out her sound. Initially, the plan was to have minimal vocals. However, once she decided against it, lyrics started flowing to her, resulting in an album that blends powerful lyricism with distinctive production.
neonme admits the process of creating ‘premiere’ was overwhelming, but the result is a completely new approach to songwriting. Most of the songs were written lyrics first and then adorned with production afterward, leading to a strange, unpredictable structure. According to the artist, this approach defined the album’s sound and gave her the freedom to explore new musical avenues.
