Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman, Marie Anderson, is facing an investigation by an English police force over an alleged incident that occurred at her home in Holywood last month. Although no details of the incident were disclosed, it occurred over a two-day period. The Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) has requested that West Midlands Police lead the investigation and determine if any further criminal offences were committed.
The office of the Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman is responsible for holding the PSNI accountable and investigating accusations of police misconduct. However, Ms. Anderson has not commented on the situation, leaving the public in the dark regarding the allegation against her.
Ulster Unionist Party leader Doug Beattie has called for Ms. Anderson to temporarily step down from her position until the investigation’s findings are published to prevent any disturbances or challenges during the investigation process.
Prior to serving as Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman in 2019, Ms. Anderson was the public services ombudsman from April 2016. The PSNI has refused to comment on the case, as the investigation is ongoing
