The UK nationals killed in Hamas attacks on Israel

The UK government has confirmed that nine British nationals were killed in the sudden Hamas attack on Israel on 7th October. A further seven are missing, some of whom are believed to be dead or held captive in Gaza. Details of the nine fatalities have emerged gradually since the attack.

Yonatan Rapoport, who was British-Israeli, was murdered at the Hamas attack on kibbutz Be’eri, southern Israel. He left behind two children, Yosefi and Aluma. Rapoport was a fan of Manchester United and had been planning to go to Old Trafford in north-west England next month for his son’s first game.

Lianne Sharabi, who was born in the UK, was found dead after the Hamas attack on Kibbutz Be’eri, while her daughter Yahel was later confirmed as a further fatality. Sharabi’s husband Eli is still missing. Nathanel Young, a former pupil of north London’s JFS Jewish School, was killed as was Bernard Cowan, a grandfather from Glasgow.

Jake Marlowe was doing security work at the Supernova music festival when it was stormed by militants and 260 people were killed. When Marlowe was still classed as missing, headteacher David Moody said the school community was praying for him. Daniel Darlington, originally from Manchester and a Berlin resident, was visiting friends in Israel when he was killed in the attack alongside a friend whose identity is unknown.

Roi, Nadav Popplewell and mother Channah Peri, all British citizens, are being held captive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Roi was found shot dead at the back of his home and his sister Ayelet Svatitzky has confirmed he was killed in the attack. Information for this article is taken from interviews with the relatives of the dead and captive and public tributes from organisations linked to the victims.

(The identities of those killed are not being routinely confirmed by the UK authorities.)
