Funktion-One shares details of updated Berghain soundsystem

Berghain, the iconic nightclub in Berlin, has recently upgraded its Funktion-One soundsystem after 18 years. Tony Andrews, the founder of Funktion-One, shared information about the new system with Mixmag, explaining that it incorporates the company’s “very latest technological developments.” He also praised the Berghain crew for their collaboration and expressed his hopes for another 18 years of working together.

Berghain’s original Funktion-One Dance Stack system was first introduced in 2005 and had been in use for almost two decades. Despite being renowned for its power and bass cabinet, there were acoustic challenges due to the venue’s high ceiling. The original system had been in use for an average of 40 hours every week and had stood the test of time.

Funktion-One has made significant advancements in loudspeaker technology over the past 18 years, leading to the creation of a new soundsystem that promises to be “technologically superior” to the previous setup. The company has not disclosed specific details about the new system, but they have confirmed that it has “different performance characteristics.”

Contrary to some reports, there has never been a Funktion-One sound system in Panorama Bar, only DJ monitors, which are still in use today. Berghain’s commitment to delivering high-quality sound is evident through the continued collaboration with Funktion-One and their willingness to embrace the latest technological advancements.

As engineers, artists, and producers continue to work with the new system, it will undoubtedly evolve further, and music lovers around the world eagerly anticipate the next decade of vibrations from Berghain’s new setup
