Dayne Felix, better known as Saint Lucian producer G6, has tragically died at the young age of 25 due to gunshot wounds. Felix was known for his work in the Saint Lucian kuduro scene, also referred to as Dennery segment. This genre, which combines soca and zouk with Saint Lucian drums and Kwéyòl vocals, was greatly influenced by his work. His collaborations with Denzel Hutchinson as “G6 Productions” on hits like “Pa Ka Chanje”, “Beng ‘Beng”, and “From De Back” have earned him a reputation that extends far beyond Saint Lucia.

G6’s passing is the most recent in a line of murders involving St. Lucian artists. Messi Laurent, a talented artist who had worked with G6 Productions on some of Dennery segment’s most popular tracks, was killed in July. The country is currently grappling with gang violence, and Felix’s death marks the 66th homicide of the year. It’s a tragic loss for Felix’s family and friends, and the Dennery segment genre.

Felix, who was not involved in any gang or criminal activity, was shot on his way to work by an unknown assailant around 7:20 AM. Despite being taken to Owen King EU Hospital, he was later pronounced dead. Hutchinson stated that gun violence is not something that can just disappear and that many from the community do not want it, but it is challenging to address.

In addition to his family and friends, Felix leaves behind a four-year-old son. Furthermore, his contribution to the Dennery segment genre will forever be remembered. Hutchinson additionally added how Felix’s musical expertise was integral to the formation of the kuduro scene, stating that Felix had produced many of the Dennery segment’s most popular songs long before the genre was trendy. We extend our condolences to Felix’s family, friends, and the music community he leaves behind.
