Luton Airport fire: Users of fire-hit car park 'left in limbo'

Passengers who have left their vehicles at Luton Airport are expressing their dissatisfaction after fire ripped through one of the car parks, with the car park and up to 1,500 cars destroyed. Terminal Car Park Two at Luton Airport received severe damage from the blaze that occurred on Tuesday. Many customers who left their vehicles there complain that they are “left in Limbo” after the incident, as they have not received any information about their car from the airport authorities and feel that they are not getting the required apology.

Katie Forbes, from Coventry, has been tweeting the airport but has heard nothing from them about her car. “I’ve had no joy, she said, and kind of left in limbo. To me, there’s been no apology, not once has anybody said ‘we’re sorry about the situation'”. She explained that her daughter left her car keys in the parked car as well, and said the incident has had a negative impact on their holiday. The 42-year-old added that it is hard to do anything, and they cannot relax around the pool because they are constantly looking at their phone to see if they got an email update.

Mr Willet, who lived in Essex, is traveling with his partner to Gran Canaria and has a vehicle in car park two. He says he has received an email from Luton Airport Parking at 2 am on Wednesday asking him to email them to get information about his car. However, he emailed the company three times since but has not received a reply. He does not know if his vehicle suffered any damage and added that he has no means of getting back home.

Currently, there is no means of accessing the car park safely. Luton Airport’s complex and ever-changing situation makes it impossible to confirm the condition of any vehicle at this time. A London Luton Airport spokesperson said, “We are sorry we have not been able to respond quickly and understand the distress the incident caused our customers. We have contacted all customers who booked with us directly and are working hard to provide more details as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, a shuttle bus is running as a temporary replacement for the Dart shuttle, pick up and drop off point remains at the 10-minute walk from the Mid-stay car park, and a shuttle bus is available for those that require assistance
