Two five-month-old foals died after a car crashed into a horsebox being towed by James Mason, a horse owner from near Market Harborough in Leicestershire, while on the M25 near Enfield. The trailer flipped and crashed, killing one of the foals, with the other having to be put down because of its injuries. The foals were rescue animals on their way to start a new life in the Kent countryside. Mason, who was driving to Canterbury to drop them off for a friend, is said to be heartbroken.
Mason told the BBC that he heard “a massive crash and a bang,” and the horsebox moved slightly. He pulled over and went straight to the animals. Some people who had pulled over told him that someone had hit the back of the trailer and driven off. Mason expressed his shock at how someone could drive off after causing such a tragic accident.
The Metropolitan Police is looking for the driver of a grey Volkswagen Sharan and has urged witnesses who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward with any useful information. This hit-and-run incident has taken the lives of these innocent animals and left the owner devastated. Any leads that may bring the driver responsible for this accident to justice, will be highly appreciated.
Mason has spoken about his traumatic experience, asking the driver of the car to come forward. He wanted justice to be served and the driver to face the consequences of their actions. It is saddening how human negligence can cause such irreparable loss of life. The incident has left many people reeling over the value of animal lives and how they can easily be taken away by human actions
