Parkrun: Boy, 9, sets new 5K world record in Poole

Louis, a nine-year-old boy, has broken a new 5k parkrun world record for his age, running the distance in 17 minutes and 40 seconds at Poole Parkrun in Dorset. The previous world record was set in California in October 2017 and Louis shaved off an impressive 13 seconds. He is a member of Poole Runners Juniors and had support from his family and fellow club members during the event.

To participate in the event, children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult who is within arm’s reach throughout, so Louis was accompanied by club member Dion Garner. Louis thanked his family and the Poole Runners’ team for their support, adding that “It’s a huge deal to break a world record.” Garner described it as “an absolute pleasure to run alongside Louis” and praised his dedication and natural talent, describing him as “not just a star in the making – he’s a star right now.”

Louis’ running club also celebrated his achievement, stating that he has set a new benchmark for youth sports and inspired children all over the world to aim higher. Poole Parkrun is a free event run by volunteers and takes place every Saturday at 9:00 am in Poole Park, with approximately 800 runners of all ages taking part. Louis has demonstrated that age is no barrier to achieving great things and has set an inspiring example for young people all over the world.

Louis said that running made him happy and that he was excited to improve upon his new record in future events. His dedication, spirit, and natural talent are evident in his impressive accomplishment, and he is undoubtedly someone to watch in future running events. He has shown us that with hard work, passion, and a supportive community, anything is possible, no matter how young or old you are. Congratulations to Louis on his amazing achievement and we look forward to seeing what he can accomplish next
