Liverpool’s Dig Vinyl to open second record shop in Merseyside

Dig Vinyl, the independent record shop based in Liverpool, has announced that it is opening a second retail store in West Kirby located on the Wirral. The new space will occupy a location previously held by Slipmat Records, representing Dig Vinyl’s ongoing relationship with the Birkenhead-based Future Yard. The venue has a capacity of 350 and serves as an artist development hub. The Future Yard and Dig Vinyl curate a monthly vinyl and craft beer market that highlights local artists, linking the two locations. Dig Vinyl credit its success to the vast experience of its founders, Carl Emery and Anthony Nyland, who constructed the store in reaction to the corporate commodification of music.

Dig Vinyl’s flagship store is located on Bold Street, and the shop has already gone beyond that location. The store managed pop-up shops at different events such as Albert Dock, We Out Here Festival, David Bowie World Fan Convention, and the Independent Label Market. Additionally, Dig Vinyl has hosted a regular radio show on Melodic Distraction. These events showcase the store’s strong connection with the Liverpool music scene.

It is worth noting that Melodic Distraction had announced its immediate closure. The station had launched a bar and event space in 2021 to help fund its broadcast. Nonetheless, Dig Vinyl expressed excitement in its ability to expand its brand to the Wirral. Dig Vinyl’s manager, Yvonne Wynne, stated that the team was thrilled to join the vibrant and bustling creative scene on the opposite side of the water. The store anticipates catering to the tastes of the local community while creating new regulars excited to join in Dig Vinyl’s offering.

The announcement was initially shared through a post on Dig Vinyl’s Instagram discussing the opening of the new store.
