Yellow warning for more heavy rain in flood-hit areas

The Met Office has issued a new warning for heavy rainfall in parts of western Scotland that are already affected by severe flooding. A yellow warning for rain has been put in place for Argyll, Glasgow, and the West Highlands. The warning will remain in place from 6 am to 9 pm, and it is expected that 15-25mm of rain will fall within the warning zone, with 40-50mm possible on high ground.

Large areas of Scotland saw about a month’s worth of rain on Saturday alone during an amber weather warning. This resulted in severe flooding across parts of Argyll, Angus, Perth, Aberdeenshire, Moray, and the Highlands.

Flood warnings continue to remain in place in several parts of Scotland, according to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency. There are currently 34 flood warnings, and 10 flood alerts are active around the country. Moreover, two severe flood warnings are in place in Aviemore and Perth.

However, a further 2,000 tonnes remains on the hillside, which will require removal before the road can reopen safely
