Next week, the Troxy in London will play host to the Youth Music Awards, with the full list of nominees announced this week. The event has been produced by Hal Leonard Europe and will look at how the music industry can improve diversity through the new Take Note campaign. The campaign is intended to highlight the lack of diversity amongst music event attendees, festival line-ups and awarding bodies. The charity behind the initiative said that by increasing access for young people, the country’s future music scene can be strengthened, and young people can make, learn and earn through music.
Although all nominees for the awards have been announced, selected from across the country and aged between 18 and 25, the winners will not be revealed until the night of the event. All categories were voted on by a judging panel of industry representatives. The Music Video Award was the only category voted on by the public.
One of the nominees, San Soucis, who won Youth Music’s Original Track Award for solo artist in 2020, said that the award brought her recognition from a professional standpoint. Since then, she’s been signed to a record label and has performed at shows around the world. She said that thanks to the charity, which had faith in her from an early stage, she is now living her dream as a recording artist.
The categories for the Youth Music Awards include the Inspirational Music Leader Award sponsored by The MU; Young Leader Award sponsored by Clintons; Outstanding Project Award sponsored by TikTok; Social Action Award sponsored by Hal Leonard Europe; Rising Star Award (Industry) sponsored by Songkick; Lyricist Award sponsored by PRS For Music; Live Performance Award sponsored by Ticketmaster; Original Track Award (Group) sponsored by Marshall Amplification; Original Track Award (Solo) sponsored by Levi’s; Music Producer Award sponsored by Amazon Music; Music Video Award sponsored by YouTube, and the Rising Star Award (Artist) sponsored by Dr Martens
