A 77-year-old man is feared to have been swept away by the River Tay during heavy rain in Perthshire. Emergency services are currently conducting a search operation after receiving a report of concern for the missing individual just after 5 pm on Sunday near Strathtay. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is utilizing two appliances and two boats in the search, which will continue on Monday morning.
A spokesperson for the Police Scotland said that the emergency services were in attendance. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that it searched the area for more than three hours on Sunday night. Flooding and heavy rain were widespread throughout Scotland, with many roads impassable due to flooding. Two severe flood warnings for Perth and Aviemore, as well as numerous local flood warnings and alerts, remained in place on Monday morning.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has cautioned people to remain safe, with concerns over flooding lingering in the wake of the severe weather. A yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Scotland’s western regions has been issued by the Met Office for Tuesday between 6 am and 9 pm. Janine Hensman, Sepa’s flood duty manager, stated that Scotland had confronted a “serious and significant severe weather event” over the weekend.
She also warned of the danger of floodwater, especially near rivers and where surface water has accumulated on roads. Communities were urged to remain vigilant as floodwater impacts lingered. The Met Office had earlier issued an amber weather warning for parts of Aberdeenshire, Angus, Highland, Moray, and Perth and Kinross over the weekend, and the heavy rain and flooding were observed throughout Scotland
