Kanye West has been spotted wearing a jumper bearing the crest of St Mary’s Christian Brothers Grammar School in west Belfast. The school principal, Siobhan Kelly, confirmed that only 35 of the jumpers were made for the school’s appearance in the final of the McLarnon Cup in 2008. The sweater is a prized possession, according to Kelly, but it is unclear how West obtained one.
West, who changed his name to Ye in 2021, is a rapper and fashion designer who runs his own label and has previously had deals with major brands. He has recently been banned from social media and dropped by fashion brands including Adidas, Balenciaga, and Gap following a series of antisemitic posts.
The video that shows West in the jumper was posted on fellow rapper Ty Dolla Sign’s social media account and features West getting a pedicure. The rapper, however, later cuts the treatment short after complaining of pain. In the meantime, followers of St Mary’s Christian Brothers Grammar School have been messaging to confirm that it is indeed the school’s jumper that West is wearing.
Despite the mystery surrounding how West got the jumper, the school is thrilled to have gained international exposure owing to the rapper’s high profile. Kelly believes that West might have either been given the jumper by someone from west Belfast or found it in a charity shop
