Drug testing and harm reduction service MANDRAKE has confirmed the circulation of high-strength ecstasy pills in Manchester containing up to three times the usual dose of MDMA. The pills, which are reddish-pink and come embossed with the “M5 Competition” logo, are around 1.5cm long and contain between 252 and 276mg of MDMA per pill. Warnings have been issued urging those who feel unwell after taking the pills to seek medical attention. The news comes days after similarly high-strength silver pills were found embossed with Marvel’s The Punisher logo.
The testing is being carried out on site at The Warehouse Project by MANDRAKE, whose role is to warn attendees of potentially dangerous drugs. The club night returned for the autumn season on 23rd September using the service. Meanwhile, earlier this year the UK government halted plans to provide drug testing facilities at festivals and clubs, a controversial move which was criticised by Sacha Lord, founder of The Warehouse Project and Parklife.
Lord describes the decision as a “reckless disregard for the safety of festival-goers”, claiming that festival-goers’ safety is in danger without the availability of drug testing. He demanded that the government reinstate the Memorandum of Understanding immediately.
