Paedophile ex-BBC DJ Chris Denning died at Bedford Hospital

A former BBC Radio DJ, Chris Denning, who was jailed for child sex offences, has died at the age of 81 after becoming seriously ill at HMP Bedford in June 2022 and being transferred to Bedford Hospital. Denning, who was described as “utterly depraved” by the judge at his most recent sentencing, was part of the original 1967 BBC Radio 1 line-up when the station was launched and was the first announcer heard on BBC Radio 2. The news of his death has just emerged in a report by the Prisons & Probations Ombudsman, which stated that nursing staff at HMP Bedford believed Denning was already receiving end-of-life care and should have transferred him to hospital sooner.

Denning used his fame to sexually assault and groom dozens of young victims in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, admitting to 40 offences including indecent assault and inciting boys to commit acts of gross indecency.
