Helix Records has released a new single ‘Broke My Heart’ in collaboration with Alice Ivy, Jelani Blackman, and Mallrat. The track will feature on Ivy’s forthcoming album, ‘Do What Makes You Happy.’ Ivy, based in Melbourne, is an ARIA-nominated artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, and this will be her third album. The full album, which was recorded last year in the US, is set to feature a range of collaborators from across the globe.
Earlier this year, Ivy released another single, ‘Howlin’ At The Moon’ from the same upcoming album. The song marked the first time that Ivy has used her own vocals on a track since her debut album in 2018.
Ivy expressed her excitement on the collaboration with Jelani Blackman, “I saw Jelani Blackman play at Great Escape, and his set was sooo good. I went up to him afterwards and floated the idea of working together. I love how this song makes you feel like you’re floating, Mallrat’s and Jelani’s vocals on it are so smooth. I’m super proud and so excited that it’s coming out, and I can’t wait to hear the 808s on a big festival PA”.
Jelani Blackman and Mallrat were equally enthusiastic to work with Ivy. “I’ve been into this tune from the second I heard it,” says Blackman. “It was so easy to write for because I fully get that feeling of heartbreak because sometimes it’s unintentional, and you still love the person…Always cool to work with people in such different places of the world than me, especially on a song I like so much,” added Blackman. Mallrat reveals that “Annika [Alice Ivy] is one of my best friends and she’s so pretty and sexy and funny and one of my favourite collaborators!”
