A teenage suspect in the murder of Brianna Ghey has pleaded not guilty. The 16-year-old girl from Birchwood, Warrington was found with fatal stab wounds in Culcheth Linear Park on February 11th. Two 16-year-olds, one male and one female, were charged with her murder and are currently on trial. One of the defendants pleaded not guilty at a pre-trial hearing at Manchester Crown Court.
Both suspects were present at the hearing along with their parents and other relatives. A trial was set for November 27th. Due to their age, the defendants cannot be named. Reporting restrictions were in place to protect their identities.
The death of Brianna Ghey has sparked widespread concern and vigils have been held across the UK in her honor. Her family described her as a “beautiful, witty, and hilarious” person with a “larger-than-life character.” Despite the plea of not guilty, the trial is expected to continue for two days.
