Russell Brand: Thames Valley Police investigates allegations

Russell Brand, comedian and actor, is under investigation by Thames Valley Police over new allegations of harassment and stalking that came to light two weeks ago. The allegations come in the wake of reports and investigations linking Brand to several rape and sexual assault allegations. The Metropolitan Police has already confirmed that it has received a “number of allegations of sexual offences” against Brand, all of which he has staunchly denied.

The previous allegations were made in a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches, in which four women accused Brand of sexual assaults between 2006 and 2013. During that time, Brand held several jobs, including positions at Channel 4 and BBC Radio 2. The investigation broadcast on 16 September also claimed that Brand displayed predatory and controlling behavior and behaved inappropriately at work.

The Dispatches program roused Brand to post a video online refuting the accusations before they aired. The 48-year-old denied all of the claims, stating that his relationships have “always” been consensual. He was critical of mainstream media and did not directly address the claims against him. He mentioned the apparent concerted effort between the mainstream media and the government to silence independent voices.

On the following Monday, the remaining dates for his Bipolarisation tour were postponed. Thames Valley Police confirmed that it is looking into the new information but it was inappropriate to comment on an ongoing investigation. BBC has approached Brand for a response to the claims.

The allegations made against Brand are very serious. The investigation has already implicated him in a range of allegations starting from sexual assault to stalking and harassment over a long period of time. It is important to wait for the investigations to conclude before making any conclusions. As of now, the only thing that is certain is that Brand is under investigation from two police forces over various alleged serious criminal charges
