Kitty Amor is the subject of new documentary ‘Who’s Kitty Amor?’

The story of Kitty Amor and her rise to international fame as an Afro house DJ is told in Defected Records’ new short-film, ‘Who’s Kitty Amor’. Beginning her journey in Nottingham, Kitty honed her skills as a DJ at the house room of Stealth, a popular club for its £1 entry Tuesday nights. Her passion for music and talent behind the turntables caught the attention of London tastemaker Sef Kombo, leading to the formation of a powerful partnership in the UK’s afro house scene.

While the documentary showcases Kitty’s impressive career and fearless selection of music, it also delves into her personal life. In an emotional section, Kitty opens up about her struggle to embrace her identity within a Christian household. Despite receiving an outpouring of love and support from the Black music scene, her family’s response to her coming out as gay was hostile. She is heartbroken by their refusal to accept her for who she is.

However, the story does have a happy ending. Kitty recalls the touching moment when her father, who had been absent for over a decade, finally embraced her after she came out to him. The approval she had been seeking for so long, especially from her father, a crucial figure in her upbringing as a music lover, made all the difference.

‘Who’s Kitty Amor’ is available to watch on Defected Records’ Youtube channel. Despite the struggles she has faced, Kitty remains an inspiration to her fans and peers in the music industry
