RIOT CODE get personal on new EP ‘Anam Cara’

RIOT CODE has released their EP titled ‘Anam Cara’ through Paula Temple’s Noise Manifesto. The EP’s title translates from Gaeilge to ‘Soul Friend’ and comprises three tracks, including a remix by Temple herself. RIOT CODE dedicated this EP to Paula Temple and her wife Nicole, both of whom have been hugely supportive of the transman who forms one half of the techno duo. The artwork of the EP features Gailege and symbolises the Irish roots of the duo from Derry.

The opening track ‘Angel Gaze’ is an emotional composition dedicated to the struggles and battles that queer people go through. The heavy broken beats with sweeping strings make it intense and emotionally charged. ‘Far From Home,’ the second track, is an acid charger for peak-time with a contrasting mix of emotions that include anxiety, yearning, and accomplishment. Through the tracks, the duo explores their rave heritage in their hometown of Derry and how the area has shaped their music output.

Paula Temple has been vocal about supporting Northern Ireland’s emerging musical talents. She believes in promoting and shining a spotlight on LGBTQIA+ talent. Temple finds RIOT CODE’s talent and determination fascinating, and she resonates with their music. She expressed concerns that the heteronormative world often underestimates the hurdles and barriers that the LGBTQIA+ community faces in life, which continue to persist. She believes music communities can support the cause by shining a spotlight on and supporting talents from the LGBTQIA+ community.

The music video for ‘Angel Gaze’ was directed and filmed by Jamie, and it coincided with a campaign related to corporate acquisition of former rave spaces and the Northern Irish Government in Derry
