Eight people arrested following thousands-strong rave in Bristol

Over the weekend, a thousands-strong rave in Bristol resulted in eight people being arrested. The police were called to an empty warehouse on Burcott Road in the Avonmouth area of Bristol. The event was stopped by the police at around 9:05PM on Saturday. Avon and Somerset police engaged with those they believe organized the event to ensure it came to a safe conclusion, while also trying to prevent more people from entering the site.

According to the police statement, when the authorities arrived they found a significant number of people present with music and sound equipment being unloaded, as well as more people arriving. Due to the dangers that having a very large number of people in a confined space can cause, a policing operation was initiated throughout the night to prioritize public safety.

Of the eight arrested, five are suspected to be involved in organizing the rave, and have been arrested on suspicion of burglary offenses. They have been released on bail according to the BBC. The remaining three individuals that were arrested are not believed to be involved in organizing the event.

All of the individuals arrested are between the ages of 18 and 30 and live outside of the area. The police are also in contact with the building owner, and the property has been secured to prevent further incidents. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Darren Lipscomb has stated that “We have made a number of arrests of people who we believe have traveled vast distances and are suspected of being involved in the organizing of this event. Enquiries are ongoing.”

This event has received mixed responses from locals, with some praising the police’s fast response and others disappointed they could not attend. Becky Buckle, Mixmag’s Multimedia Editor, explains that around 20-30 people remained at the site until the music was switched off shortly after noon
