Man arrested in connection with murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996

The long-running investigation into the murder of Tupac Shakur has taken a new development, as a man has been arrested in connection with the 1996 incident. Las Vegas police have arrested Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who is a long-term person of interest in the case. He has previously spoken about being in the car with the person who shot the rapper. The exact charge or charges that Davis now faces are not yet public, and an indictment is expected to be released later today.

Davis is the nephew of Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, who was previously implicated in the shooting. Davis has claimed that Anderson was one of two people in the back of the vehicle where the shots originated. He denied the accusation, and the case has remained unsolved since then. Anderson later died in a shooting in 2020. The investigation into the murder of Tupac has been ongoing for nearly 30 years.

Greg Kading, a former LA police detective involved in the case for many years, spoke to the press after the arrest. He said that it has been “long overdue,” and that people have been eagerly waiting for an arrest to be made for years. He affirmed that the case was never unsolved in their minds, only unprosecuted. Kading’s remarks suggest that the investigators have long had their sights on Davis as a key suspect but so far lacked the evidence to press charges.

Law enforcement officers previously searched a house in Henderson, Nevada, owned by Davis’s wife, in July of this year. But it was only on Friday morning that Davis was taken into custody in Las Vegas. Tupac was shot on September 7, 1996, after attending a boxing event in Las Vegas. He later died in the hospital of the injuries. Shakur was an acclaimed rapper who was nominated for a Grammy six times and had five number one albums. He was only 25 years old when he was killed, and the circumstances surrounding his death have been shrouded in mystery ever since
